Ankara's 'Operation Olive Branch' aims to create a buffer zone in Afrin, a Kurdish-controlled enclave on Turkey's border

Turkey has begun a major new offensive in northwestern Syria, in a bid to oust Kurdish militia from the area.
Named 'Operation Olive Branch', the ground and air operation aims to create a 20-mile (30km) "secure zone" in Afrin, a Kurdish-controlled enclave on Turkey's border.
Members of Free Syrian Army (FSA), backed by the Turkish army, are confronting US-backed Syrian Kurdish fighters, known as the People's Defence Units or YPG.

Prince Harry Tops Prince William and Kate Middleton in Official Royal Engagements

Prince Harry attended 139 royal engagements in the U.K. this year, according to a new report.
U.K.'s The Times has revealed the number of official appearances each of the royal family members made in 2017 and Harry has topped his brother Prince William and Kate Middleton. In addition to Harry's 139 domestic engagements, he also made 70 official appearances overseas.

Saudi Arabia aims to confiscate up to £610 billion in money and assets from princes and business leaders in its crackdown on corruption, it has been claimed.

The government is swooping on members of the country’s elite as it looks to transform the conservative state into a modern country that is no longer dependent on oil.

Its latest purge has seen leading businessmen and over 60 princess, officials and high-profile Saudis arrested so far.

Army To Commence “Operation Crocodile Smile’’ In Ogun

The Nigerian Army said on Sunday that it had concluded plans to launch its “Operation Crocodile Smile” in Ogun State.

The operation is a training and operations exercise planned for the South-western part of the country.

The Brigade Commander of the 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, Abeokuta, Basil Adoke, disclosed this in Abeokuta at a reception organised by the state government as part of activities to mark Nigeria’s 57th independence anniversary.

Mr. Adoke, who said that the initiative would commence “in the next couple of days” across the state and its environs, said it is targeted at miscreants.

A retired senior military officer and one time governor of Kaduna State, Mouktar Muhammed, is dead.

Mr. Muhammed, a retired air vice marshal, died yesterday evening, according to a Facebook announcement by his younger brother, Faruk Dalhatu. He died in a London hospital.

A majority of the projects the Muhammadu Buhari administration is working on was inherited from previous administrations, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity has said.

Mr Femi Adesina said this when he appeared on Channels Television’s special Independence anniversary programme on Sunday.

“Most of the things this administration is doing – 60 to 70 percent of them – were initiated by previous governments,” he said.

“That shows you that in the past a government will come and say ‘this is not our project’ And it will discard what was being done and start fresh ones.”

White House Observes Minute Of Silence For 9/11 Victims

United States President Donald Trump observed a moment of silence Monday at a White House ceremony marking the 16th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people.

The observance, along with another at Ground Zero in New York, was held at 8:46 am (1246 GMT), the moment the World Trade Center in Manhattan was struck by the first of two hijacked airliners.

EFCC: Ibori Fighting Hard To Stall Confiscation Of His Assets

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says James Ibori, former governor of Delta state, is “fighting tooth and nail” to stall the confiscation of his assets in the United Kingdom.

In 2012, a UK court convicted Ibori of money laundering, with most of his property in the country risking confiscation.  He, however, appealed the conviction.

In the latest edition of its monthly media publication, EFCC ALERT, the anti-graft agency said Ibori is on a “campaign of calumny” targeted at UK police officers in retaliation of his conviction.

Ambode Donates N5m To Widow Of Man Killed For Exposing Kidnappers’ Operation [Photo]

The Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has donated N5 million to the widow and children of Osaze Omorogbe, a community leader killed and burnt by kidnappers for leading security agents to foil their operation.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Community and Communications, Kehinde Bamigbetan, who presented the cheque to the family on behalf of the governor at a ceremony at the family’s residence in Isawo, Ikorodu, praised the deceased for his heroic role.

Mr. Bamigbetan was received by the Chairman of the Community Development Association, Ahmed Yusuf.
