A Modakeke Magistrates’ Çourt in Osun, had on Wednesday, sentenced one Onifade Adegboyega, 22, to 12 months imprisonment for stealing 15 mobile phones and other electronic items valued at over N550,000.
The Magistrate, Mrs Bose Awosan, ordered that the convict be sent to Ile-Ife prison, after he pleaded guilty to five-count charge of stealing.
Awosan said that the punishment would serve as a deterrent to others.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Glory Ona,
told the court that Adegoyega committed the offences between June 15
and Dec. 20, 2016 in eight locations within Modakeke and Ife North-East
Local Government Area of Osun.
She said that the accused specialised in stealing phones of unsuspecting people.
According to her, the accused was arrested at one of his operation locations by residents and later handed over to the police.
The
prosecutor said that police investigation revealed that the accused had
stolen 15 smart mobile phones, all valued at N550, 000.
He
said that the accused had also stolen one Kenwood engines N7500, one
Ulver engine N6500, one stabiliser N4000 and cash sum of N30,000 from 12
individuals.
The offence committed by the convict
was contrary to section 383 (1) and punishable under section 390 (9) of
the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol 11, Laws of Osun, 2003.
The accused had pleaded guilty to all the charges.
